Cowabunga! Seems like only yesterday I was saying I wanted a new Ninja Turtle game. No, it’s not in the Arkham style I would’ve liked, but I’ll take it!
If anything, it’s freaking pretty. I love the art style and how it’s its own thing. It doesn’t follow any TMNT art since it’s original. So seeing it will feel fresh and new and that’s awesome. To couple with the amazing, original art, you’re getting an original story too! And not just from anyone, but Tom Waltz, the guy who pens the TMNT IDW comics. Seriously, with 4 player co-op, this game CAN’T fail, RIGHT?!?
I sure hope not. Because judging from this video right here, my excitement went from wide eyed to weary eyed. I don’t know, something about it just didn’t seem right. Like there’s all this promise but I should just expect something to ruin it. I know, I shouldn’t expect that from PlatinumGames. With games like Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, and the recent Transformers: Devastation under their belts, I should be feeling a lot more at ease.
It seems very very arcadey and that’s totally fine. This Verge article says Mutants in Manhattan feels like a proper successor to Turtles in Time. And that’s sweet because I loved Turtles in Time. So we’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe it’ll feel empty? Maybe repetitive? Maybe it’ll only be a 4 hour game? We will see.
It comes out on May 24th and it’s going to retail for $49.99. So that’ll hopefully be more incentive to jump on it even if something is lacking. At that price though, it only makes me wonder even more about what it is exactly we’re looking forward to. Still, unless something goes terribly wrong, I’m all aboard the hype train for this one!
